Town of Naryn with the population of 45.000 is
small poor town, on the way to or from Chinese border. Built in 1865 as military
fort clay it is still a base of Kyrgyz border detachment and army unit. 99%
are Kyrgyz most are unemployed and poor. This is a great place for overnight
stop on the Bishkek - Kashgar road over Torugart pass.
What to see:
1. Rug store on the side of central square offers a number
of good deals on carpets.
2. Small Museum mostly telling about soviet history of Naryn region located
near the eastern bridge over Naryn river.
3. Salkyn-Tor canyon located 12 km east of the town is a favourite place for
locals to go for picnic. This place also has a guesthouse where you can stop
overnight.
