  National currency: Kazakh Tenge = 100 tiyin. Bank notes are in denominations of Tenge 5000, 2000, 1000, 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1. Coins are in denominations of 100, 50, 20, 10 and 1 tenge.

Currency exchange
  Only national currency Tenge can be obtained within Kazakhstan. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and at authorised exchange offices. The US Dollar and Euro are the easiest currencies to exchange. Other currencies can be changed in banks. Unless travelling with a licensed tourist company, in which case accommodation, transport and meals are paid before departure, money should be brought in US Dollars cash and exchanged when necessary.

Credit & debit cards
  Credit and debit card are wildly spread in major cities of Kazakhstan. Major European and international credit cards, including Visa and Diners Club, are accepted in the larger hotels in Almaty and in major shops and restaurants. Facilities exist for credit-card cash withdrawals in Kazakhstan.

Travellers cheques
  Are in limited acceptance except for the banks in major cities of Kazakhstan.

Currency restrictions
  The import and export of local currency as well as import of foreign currency is unlimited, but should be declared on arrival. The export of foreign currency is limited to the amount imported. Special bank permission is required for all amounts exceeding this.

Note! Banking hours: Mon-Fri 09:30-17:30. All banks are closed Sat-Sun.
